Before You Order: SuperPole Essentials for Installers

What You Need to Know Before Ordering a HealthCraft SuperPole: A Guide for DME Providers and Accessible Remodelers

When recommending or installing a HealthCraft SuperPole, there are a few key considerations you need to assess to ensure you’re selecting the right configuration for your client’s home, safety needs, and structural environment.

This guide helps you confidently answer the top questions DME/HME professionals and accessible remodelers encounter when specifying a SuperPole System. From ceiling structure to accessory compatibility, we break it down so you can provide the best-fit solution without the guesswork.

1. When is the SuperPole not a good fit?

Not every environment is suitable for a pressure-fit SuperPole. Before placing an order:

  • Avoid radiant ceilings: These may contain heating elements that are unsafe for pressure-based installation.
  • Know what’s above the ceiling: If joist placement is unknown or inaccessible, recommend a floor-mounted option instead.
  • Check floor conditions: Sloped or unstable floors (like rugs or soft flooring) can compromise the pressure-fit stability.

Alternate recommendations: Consider the Advantage Pole or Advantage Rail, floor-mounted systems that offer similar support without ceiling dependencies.

2. How to choose the right SuperPole configuration

Step 1: Weight Requirements

  • Standard SuperPole supports up to 300 lbs.
  • Bariatric SuperPole supports up to 450 lbs and is made from thicker-gauge steel.

Step 2: Ceiling Height Compatibility

  • Standard SuperPole: fits ceilings between 93” – 99”.
  • For ceilings 100” – 120”: Add a UniFit Extender (not compatible with Bariatric models).
  • For ceilings 121” – 140”: Use the SuperPole Ultra (note: this version is not compatible with SuperBar or SuperTrapeze).
  • Under 93”: Order a custom-cut pole (cutting on-site voids warranty).

Step 3: Ceiling Joist Considerations

  • SuperPole must be pressure-fit under joists spaced either 16" or 24" apart.

  • If spanning between two joists, use a Ceiling Plate Extender.

  • For sloped ceilings, use the Angled Ceiling Plate—requires placement directly under a joist.

3. Does your client need additional support accessories?

SuperBar

  • Most popular accessory. Provides perpendicular support and locks every 45 degrees.
  • Ideal for transfers and pivoting safely.
  • Compatible with all models except SuperPole Ultra.

SuperTrapeze

  • Helps clients pull from lying to seated positions.
  • Not compatible with Bariatric, UniFit, Angled Plate, or SuperPole Ultra.
  • Use only with standard or custom-cut SuperPole.

4. Compatible accessory & hardware combinations

Ensure that all accessories and installation hardware you select are compatible with each other. The SuperBar and SuperTrapeze cannot be used together. Accessories also vary in compatibility depending on ceiling height and hardware used.

When in doubt, consult the product matrix or call HealthCraft support to validate combinations before ordering.

5. Recommended Install Locations

The SuperPole can be placed anywhere indoors that is structurally sound and not exposed to the elements. Common client locations include:

  • Beside the toilet for safer transfers
  • Next to a bed as a safer alternative to bed rails
  • Living room near favorite chairs
  • Kitchen near prep or dining areas

Pro Tip: Always involve the client’s care team (OTs, PTs, family caregivers) to determine optimal placement based on mobility patterns and routines.

By aligning the right SuperPole configuration with your client’s physical environment and support needs, you position yourself as a trusted expert in fall prevention.
